  • "I just wanted you to know how grateful we are for Kathy Johnson."

Posted by Lila Stanley on 5/2/2024 8:00:00 AM

Sometimes, it just takes one person to believe in you. Churchill High School counselor Kathy Johnson was that person for Zane Harrison.

Zane is enrolled in our Academy of Creative Education (ACE) and thriving, thanks to Johnson's guidance and unwavering support.

That support didn't go unnoticed, and it prompted his grandmother, Cathy Young, to share her thanks #theNEISDway

"Kathy is such a wonderful person, and Zane was able to relax and communicate with her from the first day of meeting her. That woman is amazing. If only there were three or four of her to help everyone who needs it. I just wanted you to know how grateful we are for Kathy Johnson."

    Way to go, Kathy!

  • Why Garner students & staff love “Mr. G”

Posted by Lila Stanley on 4/29/2024 8:00:00 AM

Ray Glascock – also known as “Mr. G” -- is a popular guy on the Garner Middle School campus.

Ray is a STEPS paraprofessional at Garner. His dedication and love for the students, staff and community inspired today’s Staff Shout Out recognition.

Thank you to Garner Middle School Special Education Campus Coordinator Mario Perez-Ponciano for shining a light on Mr. Glascock and all he does to serve our students #theNEISDway

“I would like to recognize Ray Glascock, who currently serves as our sole STEPS paraprofessional representative. He has been a staple at Garner for several years, and he can often be seen interacting with all students in a positive manner. He is recognized by virtually all staff members and students alike.

The level of respect that he commands is a true testament to his skill set. Mr. G steps up to every challenge without being asked to do so. His demeanor and work ethic are testaments to not only an exemplary employee, but to a genuinely exceptional human being and role model.”

    Way to go, Ray!

  • New partnership prepares NETS students for the next step

Posted by Lila Stanley on 4/24/2024 8:00:00 AM

Nathan Conrad and peers at Project Search

A new partnership between North East ISD, Christus Santa Rosa Hospital- Alamo Heights, Texas Workforce Commission-Vocational Rehabilitation Services, PCSI, and AACOG is preparing the next generation of workers. It’s called Project Search, and its goal is to help people with disabilities secure employment.

North East Transition Services (NETS) students are thriving in this new partnership. NETS serves NEISD students between the ages of 18 – 21 with disabilities who are seeking the support skills necessary for adult life.

Nathan Conrad is part of Project Search. His mother, Karen Conrad, explained in a testimonial how the program is already making a positive impact in her son’s life.

“Thank you so much for bringing Project Search to NEISD. Our son, Nathan, is very fortunate to be in NEISD’s inaugural class of this international program.

Everyone at the Christus Santa Rosa Alamo Heights Hospital has been incredibly welcoming  and helpful in mentoring and training our students for paid employment upon graduation from NETS and NEISD. Job rotations include, but are not limited to: Housekeeping, Central Supply, Med Surgery, Dietary and Admissions.

The job skills learned in all these departments are transferable to so many different businesses, not just those in the medical field. Skills include custodial tasks, customer service skills, clerical/office skills, inventory, delivery, stocking items, food service, dishwashing and so much more.

The students also have classroom time every day with our amazing NEISD teachers Heather Solis and Timmie Greer, as well as a Job Trainer from PCSI, Krystal Tillotson. They focus on interviewing, resume writing, social skills, budgeting, health, safety, travel training, etc. Our son has learned so much and we have no doubt he will be able to find employment upon completion of this program.

Again, thank you so much for bringing this program to NEISD!”

There’s so much to DISCOVER at NEISD. Visit neisd.net/nets to learn more about our NETS program.
