Churchill senior awarded Dell Scholarship

Zoe with Ms Greene and Mr Clark

Years of hard work is paying off for Churchill High School senior Zoe Crowe.

Zoe is one of 500 students nationwide who were selected to receive the prestigious $20,000 Dell Scholarship. The scholarship provides $5,000 per semester, a new Dell computer, book money for all four college years, mental health services, and college/career guidance throughout her college experience and beyond.

She credits much of her success to AVID, an immersive college readiness program that stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. Her AVID teacher, Matt Clark, played a crucial role in helping Zoe when she arrived at Churchill midway through her sophomore year.

"My education at Churchill was more advanced than before, so I had to get used to the new environment quickly,” said Zoe. “With the help of my AVID teacher, Mr. Clark, I was able to make friends and do well in all my classes, including multiple AP and college classes. Mr. Clark was a significant figure in my journey as he guided me through the college application process and gave me valuable resources to make informed decisions about my future."

Zoe is also grateful for the unwavering guidance and support of Counselor Marilu Greene.

“Ms. Greene's unwavering support and encouragement has been a driving force in my success, and I am truly thankful for her presence in my life."

After graduation, Zoe plans to study Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. While she is excited to move on to the next chapter of her life, she’ll always remember her time at Churchill in a positive light.

"I will always fondly look back at my time at Churchill, especially the AVID program that jump-started my new phase in life," said Zoe.
