Greetings, students and parents!  My name is Eric Cruz, and I am so excited about year four at I.S.A. 

I am most excited about getting to know your child, helping them improve their reading and writing skills, and helping them discover the transformative power of a learning community rooted in critical thinking, risk-taking, and care for one another in AP Language and Composition and Creative Writing.  

AP English Language and Composition is an introductory college-level composition course. Students cultivate their understanding of writing and rhetorical arguments through reading, analyzing, and writing texts as they explore topics like rhetorical situation, claims and evidence, reasoning and organization, and style.  

Creative writing is offered as an elective course for high school students in Texas, allowing them to earn one-half to one credit. The curriculum focuses on building versatility in writing, with an emphasis on forms such as fictional writing, short stories, poetry, and drama. 

Additionally, your child will continue to grow in their understanding and application of ISA's Global Competencies--investigating the world, recognizing and weighing multiple perspectives, communicating ideas, and taking action.

I previously taught at Stephen F. Austin High School (2003-2009), KIPP University Prep (2009-2012), and Alamo Heights High School (2012-2022).

It is going to be such a transformative and powerful year of learning for both your child and me--I can't wait to see how we expand our horizons!
