Hi all! My name is Ashley Gans, and I am so excited to embark on a new year of math learning with you all!  Over the year, we will explore what it really looks and sounds like to "do" mathematics both inside and outside of the classroom. Get ready to learn, teach, and grow! 

A bit about me:

For undergrad, I attended Southern Methodist University (SMU), where I majored in Mechanical Engineering and minored in Math and German. My love for math and science mixed with my passion for working with and learning from young people led me to pursue my Master of Arts in Teaching from Trinity University.

Although I have been in Texas for the past 6 years, I am originally from Ocala, FL (feel free to ask me about some fun facts). I moved to Dallas for college, and once my family moved to Houston, I officially became a Texas transplant! My Florida roots, however, give me a strong love of theme parks (especially Disney) and probably a little too much comfort around alligators. I am so grateful to be in San Antonio and am excited to explore more about what the city has to offer! Some of my passions/hobbies include exploring new places, playing soccer/ultimate frisbee, summer camp, kayaking, playing guitar, and spending time with people who value and support me.

I am also a Fellow in the Knowles Teaching Fellowship. The five-year fellowship program for STEM teachers provides me with the opportunity to learn from a network of experienced teachers that will hone and develop my content knowledge, teaching practices, and teacher leadership skills. I am excited to bring what I learn from the Fellowship into the classroom to cultivate a community of inquiry-minded, empathetic mathematicians.
