• Welcome to English II!

    In order to have a smooth year, we feel that the following procedures will help each student to be successful.  Please read this letter with your child as these procedures will be a part of his/her daily routine.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

    Classroom Expectations:

    1. Be prepared – Bring all necessary materials, supplies, and assignments to class each day;

    2. Be prompt – Complete and turn in all assignments by assigned due dates. Be seated and

        working by bell;

    3. Be productive – Use class time effectively by actively participating in your education;

    4. Be polite – Respect our classroom and everyone in it;

    5. Be proactive- Talk to your teacher about your grade, about the class, etc., before the end of the grading period so that
        we may ensure your academic success!

    In addition to the aforementioned rules, all district and campus guidelines and policies will be followed.

    Materials NeededPlease bring the following items to class everyday: writing utensils, highlighters (multiple colors), paper, and any classroom notes and handouts you may receive.  Failure to come to class prepared will affect your daily grade.

    Texts Needed: These are potential texts English II will be using to help facilitate learning. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE UNTIL INSTRUCTED BY YOUR TEACHER!!!  We read selections as time allows.

    Lord of the Flies

    Twelve Angry Men

    Grading Policy:

    Nine weeks grades will be determined by percentages.  Grades are placed into one of three categories:

    Daily: In-class activities and homework                                   15%

    Quizzes: Reading quizzes, vocabulary quizzes, short writing assignments, Socratic discussions, etc 35%

    Essays/Assessments/Projects: Major assessments, writings, and projects 50%

    Assignment Expectations:  It is the student’s responsibility to have all components of each assignment prepared by the due date.  Failure to submit any portion of an assignment will result in a deduction of points.  Formal assignments need to be typed using MLA formatting; your instructor will specify if there are any exceptions.  Failure to adhere to these requirements will result in a 20% deduction based on district guidelines.  Be familiar with the library’s policy on printing and fees if printing is necessary.

    Missed quizzes, tests, or assignments: Assignments may only be made-up without penalty in the case of an excused absence. Any work missed due to an unexcused absence will automatically receive a 20% reduction. Regardless of an absence, long-term assignments (i.e. major projects, essays, etc.) are due on the assigned date.  When students anticipate being absent, they should schedule their submission date in advance.  When absent, students are expected to see the teacher to discuss missed work and to schedule make-up assessments.  It is ultimately the student’s responsibility to obtain and return make-up work in the designated time frame.  Please note that one class day per class missed will be allotted to make-up any missed assignments (e.g. if you miss two class days, all missing assignments must be submitted by the second class meeting).  Also, if you are absent the day that a previously announced assignment is due, you are responsible for turning in the assignment on the day that you return to class.  Any make-up work that is received late will receive a 20% reduction automatically per district policy.  Please note that per district policy, once either the grading period has ended and/or a summative assessment has occurred, late assignment submissions from that unit of study are no longer permitted.  This policy applies to all assignments, quizzes, projects, and tests.

    Attendance:   Class begins promptly when the bell rings.  All students arriving after the bell (and prior to the five-minute mark) will receive a tardy.  Missing more than 5 minutes of class will result in an absence. In the instance of excessive absences and tardies, all district and campus policies will be enforced.

    Academic Integrity: All work submitted must be your own, original work. Homework will be completed independently (unless stated otherwise), and the test/quiz environment will be taken seriously. Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated.  This includes (but is not limited to) such acts as copying during a test, sharing answers or test questions with other students, copying information on any assignment in which an individual grade is given, or plagiarizing. Violations of the course’s academic integrity will be addressed per the Reagan High School Policy of Academic Honesty.

    Tutoring/Teacher Webpage: See your teacher regarding his/her tutoring schedule.  Also, please be sure to access your teacher’s web page and Google Classroom.  Every effort is made to keep the webpage information current.
