Arts Integration

is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both.

  • Texas 2016: NEISD & Tobin Center/Kennedy Center Partnership

In partnership with The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, NEISD was selected as one of only 10 arts institutions nationwide to participate in the Kennedy Center Partners in Education Program in Washington, D.C. for 2016. The program is designed to partner arts organizations with school districts to provide arts-based professional development training for teachers. Together with Kennedy Center artists and national education leaders, NEISD and The Tobin Center create detailed plans for Arts Integrated professional development training for NEISD teachers each academic year. Over 95 partnerships across 46 states are already participating in the program, entering its third decade of service. The Tobin Center is a proud partner with NEISD for transformational learning as TEXAS 2016!

    NEISD Dedicated Campuses

Dedicated campuses have committed to transformative teaching and learning mindsets campus-wide. All students are consistently challenged to think of themselves as creatives, to practice both critical and creative thinking simultaneously, and to actively engage in the creative process as they construct and demonstrate knowledge through an art form.

  • Arts Integration Ambassadors

In 2017, NEISD established small cohorts consisting of teachers throughout the district. The Ambassadors are a cohort of elementary to high school members with the understanding, drive, and experience to integrate the arts within the content. The goal of the cohort is to revitalize our program to dig deeper, activate the learner, and give all students opportunities to showcase their learning creatively. These teachers actively participate in their learning and can offer support and professional learning opportunities to support student learning.

This year, we onboarded a new cohort of EC HS teachers. The Arts Integration Partnership continues to grow, building partnerships within our department of instructional leaders to support teacher learning opportunities and increase student participation.
