• Welcome to the harp side!  Below is a One-Stop-Shop on everything you need to know regarding the NEISD 5th Grade Strings harp program. If you need more information, please email me at nsharp@neisd.net.

Who can join? Classes are open to any NEISD 5th grade student in the Reagan cluster. (Other clusters please inquire.)

Where are classes held? We meet Mondays and Wednesdays in the Reagan orchestra room 3:30-4:30pm. Parent transportation required, busses are not available. Please view our full year 5th Grade Harp Class Calendar

What is the purpose of harp class? The primary purposes of the class are to expose students to the harp through playing and learning together, to provide a 'jump start' for their orchestral experiences, and to foster great harpists throughout the Reagan cluster orchestra programs.

What is beyond 5th grade for harp? Participation and continuation into middle and high school orchestra programs is expected as a natural progression of their music education. For participation in orchestra classes beyond 5th grade strings, harpists must be enrolled in private lessons because the instrument is so vastly different from violin, viola, cello, or bass.  Please contact me directly for a list of qualified, trusted private teachers in our area.

Do I need to own a harp? All students must have an instrument in order to practice at home, participate in class, as well as recitals and concerts. Renting a harp is strongly recommended rather than purchasing one for 5th grade strings, as your student will eventually grow and need a larger pedal harp. Look for instruments with no fewer than 34 strings. Here are a few company websites where you can find more information regarding rental policies.
