Teaching with Heart: A Shout Out to Brooke Workman
Posted by Evan Henson on 4/30/2025“I write today to express my profound appreciation for the amazing work that is occurring within the walls of Harmony Hills Elementary.”
Choosing where your kids go to school is a big decision as a parent. There are plenty of options. But every year, thousands of families choose North East ISD for their kids.
For NEISD parent, Megan, choosing NEISD for her kids was the best decision she could make for them. Harmony Hills fourth grade teacher Brooke Workman is one of the big reasons Megan’s kids have had such a positive learning experience. So, she recently sent Workman a Staff Shout Out thanking her for the attention and care she brings to the classroom and her kids.
“I am a parent of 4 NEISD students. I write today to express my profound appreciation for the amazing work that is occurring within the walls of Harmony Hills Elementary. My children are truly thriving under the direction of the phenomenal team in this school. They feel safe, encouraged, challenged, nurtured, respected, and integrated. I know I could write 20 emails of incredible length and not even come close to fully describing the way this school has placed an indelible mark of hope on our family. We are beyond thankful for Ms. Carrie Elliott and her amazing team. We tried other educational opportunities in the community before finding our way home in NEISD, including private school and charter school. I can say without any hesitation that nothing compares to the holistic educational experience my children have received since transitioning to public school.
To best exemplify this sentiment, I want to alert you to the treasure that is Brooke Workman. Ms. Workman teaches 4th grade ELAR. She serves as the homeroom teacher for my son. From the moment she met him, she embraced him and cared about him in a way that I will never forget. Every step of the way, she has built him up, encouraged him, and pushed him to believe that he has purpose and value in the classroom and the community. She has devoted hours of time to creating take home work for him when he misses school for therapy. She has teamed with us constantly to ensure that we can partner with the school to develop his skills and prepare him for middle school academically, emotionally, socially, and beyond. Her educational strategies are innovative and engaging. She targets the individual needs of each child and helps them realize their personalized goals. She creates an environment that helps children learn to accept all peers in the classroom, allowing them to work as cohesive and supportive friends. She readily engages with all members of the education team across classrooms and disciplines to provide the best possible experience for each child.
I could write emails about so many of the wonderful educators in our district! Thank you for creating a place where all children can learn and become great people!”
If you want to thank an NEISD educator who has made a positive impact on you, we’ve made it easy. You can send them a Staff Shout Out by visiting neisd.net/shoutouts.

NEISD Alumni Spotlight: Churchill’s Brooke Iglesias
Posted by Evan Henson on 4/29/2025Churchill High School graduate Brooke Iglesias is a force to be reckoned with. Just reading her résumé is enough to leave you breathless — and inspired.
She’s appeared in movies and Super Bowl commercials.
She’s earned numerous medals for Jui Jitsu.
She’s written a children’s book.
She’s a mom of two.
She’s launched BRAVE, a self-defense and mental fortitude program.
She’s currently Mrs. San Antonio and is hoping to add the title of Mrs. Texas to her resume in the coming weeks.
At Churchill there’s a motto: We care. We create. We compete. Brooke doesn’t just live it—she elevates it.
“My time at Churchill taught me to be productive, disciplined and it gave me a great work ethic,” said Iglesias. “Coach Trevino pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of. She was able to do that in a loving and encouraging way— the perfect blend in a coach.”
Trevino was Brooke’s cheer coach at Churchill. Cheer played a critical role in Brooke’s high school career. She fondly recalls the feeling she would get when the drumline would clear the bleachers and join her and the other cheerleaders on the track to get the crowd excited for another game under the Friday night lights.
That passion led her to join the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) which resulted in a national title run her senior year. During her high school years, it was already evident that if Brooke was going to do something, she was going to give it her all and go as far as she could.
So, now as she prepares for a run at Mrs. Texas, she returned to the place that instilled that discipline and work ethic that has gotten her so far in life. During her visit, she got in a few practice rounds of walking the stage.
“It was surreal! To see how far I have grown emotionally and spiritually since being a high schooler was the best part of it all,” said Iglesias. “In high school I struggled with finding acceptance from others and now I can truly say I am confident with just who I am showing up the best version of myself every day for my family and my community. Once a Charger. Always a Charger.”
As we cheer on Brooke for her Mrs. Texas run, she had these words to share with current NEISD students.
“Never underestimate the power of your voice. Use it for good, to better someone's life including your own!”
Brooke is not just representing Churchill on the world stage—she’s redefining what’s possible #theNEISDway.
Big or small, everyone has a story to tell. Visit neisd.net/tellyourstory to share yours.
