Our Design and Art Pathway blends non-digital creative expression with contemporary digital media. The pathway utilizes traditional and emerging tools to manifest imaginative visions, with students building foundational art talents through charcoal, pastels, pencil drawings, and acrylic paints. Whether an aspiring artist or a beginner to the world of design, our dedicated instructors meet students where they are and help them find their creative voice. The Design & Art Pathway offers a world of creativity and innovation, unlocking artistic potential while exploring diverse mediums and establishing a path to a future brimming with artistic possibilities. It’s a journey where every brushstroke and pixel adds to the masterpiece. Whether students are refining traditional talents or pioneering new media, cross-disciplinary literacy and creative problem-solving are central, which is why the Design and Art Pathway enables innovation on the canvas and beyond. As wide open as art, so are the opportunities. From working in the world of traditional art to video game design and everything in between. The Design and Art pathway provides for multiple opportunities to earn college credit with the integration of AP and Dual-Enrollment courses while building a portfolio of work to support college or career. Design and Art CurriculumRegardless of entry skills, students are prepped for Honors Art I and Honors Art II with some flexibility in the order in which they choose Advanced Placement Studio Art 2D Design, UT OnRamps Arts and Entertainment Technologies, and Advanced Placement Studio Art 3D Design. As students learn about the elements, expressions, and traditions of art, they are prepared for their upper-level art classes. Art I Honors develops skills in studio art and begins building a portfolio, while Art II Honors is designed for students who will continue their exploration of a variety of two and three-dimensional media and techniques, the elements and principles of design, art criticism, and art history. Upperclassmen are additionally offered Advanced Placement (AP) courses in art, enabling highly motivated students to pursue college-level work in studio art while developing an extensive portfolio of Studio Art 2D and Studio Art 3D work which will be submitted for College Board evaluation at the end of the school year. Studio Art 3D offers additional development in sculpture, architectural rendering and models, metal work, ceramics, glass work, and others. Our digital course, UT OnRamps Arts and Entertainment Technologies (AET), offers students the ability to be dual-enrolled and work with a professor from the University of Texas at Austin. The course uncovers how design thinking creates an engaged user experience through interactive storytelling, and investigates how perceptions can be altered through the use of visualization software by creating animated and immersive experiences. Additionally, students explore the fundamentals of game design and the world of app design.
