April 1-5 is National Assistant Principal Week. It’s a great reminder of the many contributions our dedicated Assistant Principals make across our campuses.
Victoria Reyes hit the ground running as a first-year assistant principal at Roosevelt High School. She has a special connection with the students that made her new role even more fulfilling.
As a former teacher at Ed White Middle School, she was able to join many of her students as they moved on to high school.
“I promised my first group of Ed White kiddos I would make it to Roosevelt before they graduated,” said Reyes. “It’s hard to say goodbye when they move on to high school, even though Roosevelt is a neighborhood away. I am so thankful I ended up at Roosevelt.”
Reyes’ roots in North East ISD run deep. She grew up attending Fox Run Elementary School, Driscoll and Harris Middle School, and Madison High School, where she graduated in 2011.
When she had the opportunity to be a student teacher at Roosevelt, she jumped at the opportunity. The connection to her students and the community was instantaneous. She spent the next five years at Ed White before making the jump to teaching at Roosevelt.
“The connections I have made with these kids and their parents is so special. I tell them every chance I get that I’m proud of them. It’s been a fantastic experience.”
Reyes fast-tracked her goal of becoming an AP with NEISD’s Administrative Training Program. When the opportunity to become an AP at Roosevelt came about it felt like it was meant to be.
It’s extra special for Reyes to watch her students grow up while they watch her achieve her goals right alongside them.
“I’ve been given a lot of opportunities to grow at NEISD. I love walking the halls, checking in with kids and making sure everybody is taken care of regardless of grade levels.”
