Mrs. Cheri Marks

I am thrilled to be here at Coker Elementary School! I am excited to begin my new adventure as the instructional intervention teacher.  I will be primarily providing dyslexia therapy services to the students here at Coker.  This year marks my 26th year in education.  I've taught for 19 years in California.  My experiences have been teaching mostly K-2nd grades as well as 4th grade.  I've also spent time as an intervention teacher in grades K-5, as well as a District Reading Coach for 2 schools.  My husband's job relocated us to San Antonio in 2015.  Since then, we've made beautiful San Antonio our home.  Three of our 5 sons have relocated here as well.

I have a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies from California State University Northridge and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University Irvine.  My certifications here in Texas are EC-6th grade, as well as ESL certified. Currently, I am working towards becoming a certified language therapist.   I take great pleasure in teaching reading and writing to our emergent readers and writers.

I am married and I have 3 sons…Justin 30, Ryan 25 and Brandon…22. In addition, I have 2 stepsons, Garrett 26 and Travis 24. As I've mentioned earlier, 3 of our 5 sons have made San Antonio their home as well.  In addition, we have 2 beautiful granddaughters and 5 dogs that we love spending our free time with.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, shopping, gardening and going to the movies. Above all I love spending time with my family and spoiling our 2 beautiful granddaughters.

My favorite part about teaching is getting to know my students. Children learn best when they feel connected with their teacher and know they are loved and appreciated. The students in my classroom become a part of my heart. I love seeing them grow as learners throughout the year. I model being a lifelong learner and enjoy seeing a love of learning come to life in each one of my students!

Please feel free to contact me at any time.

I'm looking forward to an awesome year, making memories and having tons of fun!
