Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and Art History Masters in Administration
Mr. Joaquin Hernandez
I am a proud graduate of MacArthur High School—though not this one. I graduated from Houston MacArthur before heading west to Los Angeles, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts and Art History from Occidental College and a master’s in educational leadership from Pepperdine University. My journey in education began in the classroom, teaching Kindergarten at the elementary level, ESL English Language Arts and Social Studies in middle school, and Art I and II in high school, 5 years in three very different schools. From there, I transitioned into administration, serving as an Assistant Principal for both middle and high school and then principal, for both middle schools. Both times serve the same school in both capacities.
My leadership journey expanded further as I served three years as Superintendent of Schools for a small charter district in South Central Los Angeles and then two years as an executive-level administrator with the Los Angeles County Office of Education. These roles gave me a broad perspective on how schools, systems, and policy must align to support student success. After 17 years in California, we returned to Texas in the summer of 2015, but I returned married with two small children. My first 5 years back, I continued my work in a local charter system as an elementary, middle, and high school administrator.
In 2020, I joined NEISD as Principal of Wood Middle School, and the following year I was honored to become Principal of MacArthur High School. The 2025–2026 school year will mark my 6th year in NEISD and my 27th year in education, that is five years in the classroom, more than two decades in school and district leadership, 8 schools, and 6 school districts.
In 2022, my personal and professional lives came together when my oldest daughter enrolled at MacArthur, followed by her brother two years later. Having my own children here has deepened my commitment to ensuring we get it “right” for every Brahma. MacArthur High School is both my professional and personal responsibility, and while the mascots and color schemes may be different from the one, I graduated from, MacArthur is—and always will be—home. #MacPrideNeverDies

Together, we strive to ensure that every Brahma not only succeeds academically, but also grows as a leader, a thinker, and a valued member of our community.

Mr. Hector Munoz
Hello, my name is Hector Muñoz, and I am thrilled to serve as the 9th Grade Assistant Principal at MacArthur High School. This school year marks my 13th year in education and my 5th year in administration. I am deeply passionate about supporting students in reaching their highest potential—academically, socially, and personally.
At MacArthur, I have the privilege of overseeing the 9th-grade class of 2029. My focus includes improving attendance, promoting positive behavior, and ensuring a smooth transition into high school. I am committed to helping all students build a strong academic foundation in their first year and stay on track for long-term success. I am honored and excited to join the MacArthur High School team as an Assistant Principal! With 14 years of experience in educational leadership across K–12 settings, I’ve had the privilege of serving in elementary, middle, and predominantly high school environments. Prior to stepping into administrative roles, I began my career as a teacher and later as a school counselor—experiences that continue to shape my student-centered and holistic approach to education.
What makes this opportunity especially meaningful is that MacArthur is more than just a school to me—it’s home. This community is where my own educational journey began, and returning now in a leadership role feels like a full-
circle moment. I’m deeply committed to giving back and supporting the next generation of students as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
I’m looking forward to a fantastic school year ahead and to working alongside our students, families, and staff to continue the tradition of excellence at MacArthur.

I am honored to join MacArthur High School as one of the new Assistant Principals and look forward to serving our students, families, and staff.
With nearly two decades in education, I spent close to 15 years in the classroom before stepping into administration in 2020—the challenging but transformative “Covid year.” In addition to teaching, I served as an assistant cheer coach for 9 years and an assistant dance director for 3 years, experiences that allowed me to connect with students beyond academics and help them grow as leaders and individuals.
I have a deep passion for working with youth and take great pride in supporting their academic, personal, and future success. I am inspired by the unique strengths, backgrounds, and cultures each individual brings to our school community, and I love engaging with students on their level to help bring out the very best in them.
My philosophy of education is simple yet powerful: all students are capable of learning—they just need the right push from a caring and supportive adult. I strive to be that person for every student, offering guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear whenever they need it.
I am excited to work alongside the dedicated staff at MacArthur High School to create an environment where all students feel seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.
