Ed White students lead NEISD board meeting

Two outstanding students from Ed White Middle School helped kick off the February regular board meeting for North East ISD.

Proud principal of Ed White, Fernando Ruiz, introduced Ruben Ayala and Leilani Serna. Ruben led the meeting with a heartfelt invocation and Leilani led the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags.

Ruben is an eighth grader in the Design and Technology Academy (DATA) at Ed White. He’s a member of the Junior Honor Society, a member of the debate team, and a student athlete who participates in golf and football.

Among the family accompanying him that evening were his parents Ruben Ayala Sr and Christa Ayala.

Leilani is also and eighth grader at Ed White. She is a member of the band program, the art program, and is a student athlete who participates in basketball and track. She was joined by her parents Anthony Serna and Salome Serna.

Special posthumous honor for former trustee

Also at this board meeting, a special plaque was presented to family members of Terri Williams, a North East ISD trustee who passed away last year.

The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) board created a resolution in honor of Mrs. Williams which was read by NEISD Board President Shannon Grona.

Williams was a lifelong advocate for community service, education and leadership development. She attended public schools as a child and worked hard to support public education throughout her entire life.

She joined the NEISD board in 2018 and will always be remembered for her dedication to the students of our District.
