  • North East ISD is excited to join over 20,000 Texans across 300 communities throughout Texas to compete in the 2024 It’s Time Texas Community Challenge. This eight-week, statewide health competition serves as a fun, free way for us to prioritize our health while going head-to-head against nearby school districts and other campuses in NEISD, while demonstrating our commitment to health! But we can’t do it alone; we need all-hands-on-deck to have a chance to win! North East won the challenge in 2023 and received a Community Impact Award from Mayor Ron Nirenberg. See below for more information regarding the Challenge and next steps.

    What is the Community Challenge?

    • Kick off the New Year with simple healthy habits and be part of something that impacts more than just you! Be part of building a healthier Texas by participating in the It’s Time Texas Community Challenge from Jan. 8 to March 3.
    • Download the Community Challenge app and compete. Report daily healthy habits such as drinking water, going for a walk, and eating a healthy snack to earn points. At the end of the competition, the top individuals, school districts, organizations, and communities will win prizes, be recognized, and earn bragging rights until 2025! This year, the NEISD PE and Health Department will again recognize the top school for elementary, middle, and high school.
    • New in 2024!  The NEISD Wellness Department has joined in the fun and will be hosting grand prize drawings at the end of the challenge.  These grand prizes are available ONLY to NEISD employees who participate.  Grand prizes include:

    One-Time Bonus Points:

    2. Submit a Health Champion Pledge: Under “Spread the Word” section on the app home screen, a participant will be awarded 1000 points for taking the Health Champion Pledge. Please note this does count towards your limit of 15 activities per day.

    Ongoing Opportunities to Earn Points:

    1. Reporting Individual Health Actions (50 pts.): Beginning January 8th, all healthy eating, physical activity, water consumption reports will be awarded 50 points. Note: Participants will earn points for the first 15 activities per day.  This includes reported individual health actions, group activity check-ins, and destination check-ins. You can report all of your health actions, but you will only receive points for the first 15 reports that are logged per 24-hour period (12:00am CT to 11:59pm CT). Physical activity reports automatically synced via Apple Health or Google Fit are also counted towards your daily limit. If you forget to log an activity, not a problem! You can retroactively report health actions up to 7 days later.
    2. Check-in to a Group Activity: If you attend a group activity that has been organized via the Community Challenge app, check-in to earn 100 points! See below for group activity constraints to promote a fair and equitable challenge:
      • Timeframe: Applied to both in-person and virtual activities, you will be able to check-in to the activity up to 30 minutes before, during, or up to 30 minutes after the activity; you will be unable to check-in to any other group activities for 30-minutes.

You will be awarded 100 points. You are getting points for the group activity and will not report the physical activity health action, “Dance.”

    3. Check-In to a Destination: By visiting a healthy destination that has been identified via the Community Challenge, you will earn 100 points!
