Mrs. Michele Barrera

Hi there! My name is Michele Barrera. I have the wonderful opportunity to be the MTSS Campus Coordinator(RTI) and Targeted Support Teacher. I am ecstatic to be able to work with all grade-level teams and support student growth. My goal is to meet each student where they are—both academically and emotionally—and help them learn, grow, and build confidence at their own pace.

I feel so lucky to be part of our amazing school and the supportive Redland community. This is my fifth year here, and I’ve loved every moment of it. I have 20 years of teaching experience, with over a decade of experience in ELAR—something I’m truly passionate about, especially at the 5th grade level. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to teach in several states, including Virginia and Washington, and I’ve taught every grade level from Pre-K to 5th. Each one has taught me something special and holds a place in my heart.

Continuing education is very valuable to me. I earned my undergraduate degree from Texas A&M Kingsville University and my Master’s in Instructional Leadership from Concordia University in Austin. I’ve always had a deep love for reading and writing—you can often find me happily lost in a bookstore for hours, searching for the next great read to add to my collection. I also enjoy audiobooks, especially on the go! I want to instill that same joy for reading, writing, and learning in my students. Most importantly, I hope to encourage them to keep striving, even when things feel challenging, and to never give up on their academic growth.

A little about my family is that I have five wonderful children, ranging in age from 13 to 26. I’m a proud grandma of three amazing granddaughters! My husband is a retired military service member, and we've made San Antonio our home. He's also a pilot, so we enjoy flying small Cessna planes for fun on the weekends. As a family, we love cheering on the Spurs, having movie nights, walking our dogs, and exploring all the great things our city has to offer.

I look forward to working with the students, teachers, and families and am excited about the new school year! Let's have an amazing year!
